Water (Coral)

niche size: 28" wide x 9" high x 9" deep
2020
coral specimens, wood, pigment

Early cabinets of curiosity often contained examples of coral. Coral was highly prized for its beauty, variety, and strangeness. It was difficult to categorize: is it an animal, a fossil, or a shell? To add to its uncanny nature, coral often looks like something else. In this coral group, you see an example of brain and branch coral.
