Loca Miraculi, Gallery Three: Optical Devices

Here you see an example of an anamorphic mirror illusion. The original image is distorted onto a flat circular plane with the center of the distorted image cut out to accomodate a vertical cylinder with a mirrored surface. The distortion appears normal when viewed at a particular point on the mirror.

The print used for the illusion comes from Robert John Thornton's The Temple of Flora, 1802-1812.
